FACILITIES MANAGER

City Church is a multi-ethnic, multi-economic, multi-generational church in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeking to hire a full time Facilities Manager to our growing staff. Under the direction and leadership of the Executive Discipleship Pastor, this role will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of City Church and the ability to align key volunteer teams with its mission, vision and values (forthecity.com).

The Facilities Manager is responsible for all aspects of ensuring the church is operationally strong through leadership and coordination of all church operations activities from weekend service preparation and logistics through ongoing care and maintenance of church facilities and grounds. This includes overall “operational readiness” regarding operational infrastructure development, facilities program management, supply replenishment, and security. This is a ministry stewardship position and the facilities manager works closely with staff and volunteers to support the ministries of the church.

The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the following:

1. Modeling Biblical Priorities

Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of City Church. He or she should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The Facilities Manager strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions.

These objectives are accomplished by:

  • Committing to a daily quiet-time with God.

  • Participating in a City Church small group on a regular basis.

  • Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.

  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of City Church employees, as defined by the Staff Handbook.

2. Facility Oversight

Responsible for ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for our congregation and staff by overseeing maintenance, security and operations.

These objectives are accomplished by:

  • Managing contracts and professional/operational services (i.e. HVAC, electrical, plumbing).

  • Develop and implement a formal “facilities program” that ensures the timely completion of preventive and corrective maintenance on all church equipment, facilities, and grounds.

  • Build a team of staff, contractors, and volunteers that perform the various facilities maintenance activities required to ensure constant operational readiness related to church facilities and grounds.

  • Coordinate setup and teardown for church events and supervise staff and volunteers for setup and teardown.

  • This job will include weekly janitorial services and quarterly maintenance services. Also work with and oversee custodial services and cleaning schedules.

  • Assist in budget planning for facility-related expenses. Manage facility budget.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment

  • Support the ongoing oversight of church information technology (IT) infrastructure (internet connectivity, firewall(s), VOIP, network cabling, WIFI networks, etc.), enabling growth and the accomplishment of the church’s mission.

  • Recruit and oversee contractor(s) and volunteers needed to maintain and expand the church’s IT infrastructure properly.

  • Assist staff in the areas of facilities, supplies, and logistics to support a thriving ministry.

3. Sunday Morning Oversight and Emergency Preparedness

Responsible for establishing a safe, welcoming facility on a Sunday morning.

  • Lead a team of volunteers and paid staff, ensuring a constant and continuously improving state of operational readiness.

  • Oversee volunteers and paid staff to ensure Sunday morning setup, teardown and custodial needs are maintained.

  • Maintain an Emergency Operations Plan ensuring the church is prepared for and capable of handling anything that might constitute an emergency.

  • Within the Emergency Operations Plan framework, recruit and oversee security, parking, and other teams needed to ensure operational readiness as it relates to safety, security, and emergency preparedness.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in facilities management or related field

  • Knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Sundays and some evenings

  • Physical ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods
